Founding editor Yukon, North of Ordinary magazine

A four-colour, 72-page, general-interest quarterly published by Harper Street Publishing. It’s the featured inflight magazine on Air North, Yukon’s Airline.

As the founding editor, I wrote and designed the original magazine proposal that was submitted to the airline. Once the proposal was accepted, I wrote job descriptions, contracts and protocols.

On a day-to-day basis I managed freelance writers, designers, copy editors and proofreaders; set editorial; wrote content; copy edited; proofread; managed production and oversaw all parts of magazine production.

Getting Real

A four-colour, 88-page, 8.5” x 11” manual (loose-leaf paper in a binder) created to accompany a DVD on the topic of prevention of intimate-partner violence.
Client: Circles of Respect and Equality (CORE) working group, Whitehorse, Y.T.

This manual was designed for a broad readership: from basic to university level. Design elements used to make the manual accessible for the target audience are generous line spacing (leading) and large font point size for body text. The images are stills from the DVD; the client provided both the images and the illustrations.
